While Call of Duty may get a lot of backlash for its wacky skin designs and over the top campaigns, there's no denying the art team always does a brilliant job from a visual standpoint.

You can tell a huge amount of creativity goes into all the set pieces, cosmetics, and cutscenes in both Warzone and MW3.

Despite this, a job listing has hinted that Activision could be taking a slightly different approach to art in future by implementing AI tools. This hasn't gone down well with the community, who have slammed it as a "trash" idea that should be scrapped.

Treyarch job listing hints AI will be used in future CoD art development

As showcased by popular Call of Duty account CharlieINTEL, a Treyarch job listing has revealed the studio may be looking to use AI tools for art development.

This is hinted at in the description, which says that a successful candidate will "be an Artist who is skilled in digital illustration, motion design, and using generative AI tools." Not only that, but the bullet point section makes it clear that artists must be able to "polish 2D art made by humans and generative AI tools."

It's unclear how much art will be created through AI, but it's definitely interesting that Activision is potentially looking to pivot towards the controversial method. Players have speculated it's to do with money and needing fewer employees in the art department team with AI involved - that's just speculation, though.

AI is always a topic that drums up debate in the game's industry and it's no different with Activision this time around. Countless players are unhappy with AI being used for art dev, and believe it only churns out designs that are devoid of creativity.

"Call of Duty is officially cooked, they don’t put the effort in anymore," said one user, with another claiming, "It’s so they can release skins and camos on a daily basis for more micro transactions."

Others have argued that AI is the inevitable future, and anyone refusing to see that will be "left in the dust." For them, having artists just polish off AI-generated art is fine, as long as the game is still fun.

At the moment, we have no idea how much of a part AI will play in CoD's design, but either way, it's guaranteed to be a topic that divides the community in half.
