There's a whole new Wonderland to explore, as Electronic Arts takes us down the rabbit hole all over again for American McGee's Alice: Madness Return. As the long-awaited sequel to 2000's American McGee's AliceMadness Returns was a much bigger and bloodier outing in 2011.

Lewis Carroll's Wonderland might've been sinister enough, but in the Alice games, you play a girl who ends up in a psychiatric facility following the death of her parents in a house wife. Usual players like the Mad Hatter and Queen of Hearts are reimaginined as nightmarish villains. If you haven't played the Alice games before, you can guess that American McGee's work on DOOM makes them a suitably violent affair.

How Can You Play Alice: Madness Returns?

Alice: Madness Returns

According to PC GamerMadness Returns is back on Steam. Although it was originally released in 2011, it was delisted around 2016 ago due to verification issues on EA's side. It has been available on Origin the entire time, however, many wanted it in their Steam library.

Apparently, keys have been going for stupid sums of money, with reports of $200 doing the rounds. Those people are probably pretty angry right now. One happy player shared the news on the Steam community and added: "I will say that this is by far one of the most unique, gorgeous, and fun games I have ever played, and the story is just so immersive. It's just beyond comparison, as I was in desperate need to find a similar game to this one after I finished it, but it just could be done."

With it back on the Steam store, the positive reviews soon flooded in. Another was smiling like the Cheshire Cat and wrote: "I literally spend over 100 dollars just so I could play this game (while it was taken off sale), only for it to come back cheaper. Was it worth it though? Yes." A third simply concluded by writing, "Alice: Madness Returns returns."

Are There More Alice Games On The Way?

This has obviously sparked hopes that EA could move forward with plans for a third Alice game. If you've been keeping up with American McGee, he's currently working on Alice: Asylum under his own steam and plans to self-publish without EA's help. There's been a steady flow of updates and artwork from Asylum's development process, but it's largely shrouded in mystery.

If that wasn't enough, there was recent confirmation that a live-action Alice series is on the way to help the fandom grow. Remembering there was an 11-year gap between the first two games, we're due a third entry in 2022. Even though McGee hasn't confirmed when Alice: Asylum will release, you only have to look at the response to Returns arriving back on Steam to see there's a lot of love for the franchise.
