It's time for a game of "Who's that Pokemon?" as the Pokemon anime has just introduced a brand-new addition to the ever-growing Pokedex. While Pokemon Scarlet and Violet took us over 1,000, this mysterious 'mon is adding its number to the Dex.

It was the end of an era as we waved goodbye to Ash Ketchum and Pikachu after 26 years of loyal service, however, newcomers Liko and Roy are settling in nicely. Alongside the Gen IX starters of Fuecoco, Quaxly and Sprigatito, there's the surprise addition of someone we didn't see in Scarlet and Violet.

What is the new Pokemon?

As reported by Serebii.net, this brand-new Pokemon has made its mark in the first episode of Pokemon Horizons. The anime has a history of introducing Pokemon before the games, with everyone from Snubbull to Togepi, Lugia to Ho-Oh arriving first in animated form.

In the episode, new protagonist Liko and her Sprigatito come across this crystalised Pocket Monster. There's no word on what this new Pokemon is and we also don't have a name, but given its prominence, we expect it to play a pretty major part in the franchise's future.

Fans have noted it looks similar to Terapagos, the legendary Pokemon that debuted on Pokemon Day 2023. As Terapagos is the mascot of the upcoming The Hidden Treasure of Area Zero DLC. Terapagos is coming in The Indigo Disk wave release, so it makes sense that this newcomer is tied into it somehow.

Fans love the brand-new Pokemon

This trippy turtle is already getting plenty of love from the fandom, meaning viewers can't wait to see how it'll tie the games and anime together and solve another mystery. One wrote, "No way they show the second DLC Legendary before either DLC came out."

Another added, "It's already my favorite legendary besides Teragapos," while a third said, "I really hope this is an evo or alternate form and not another Manaphy and Phione thing." We guess it has something to do with Gen IX's Terastallizing mechanic.

Not everyone was a fan, as one critic said, "Ew. Baby form legendary? Unusable, no reason for it to exist in the games, and they somehow managed to make a baby turtle look weird and gangly..." Come on, give that little guy a break, how can you not find it adorable?
