Resident Evil has had a pretty good year, all things considered. The start of 2021 brought Resident Evil: Village, which is held as a bold new step for the horror franchise that embraced the gothic and the internet's long-standing adoration of women that could kill them with ease in the now-iconic Lady Dimutrescu.
We've also had a VR remake of Resident Evil 4 whet the appetites of classic fans who are still waiting on a remake of the game. Plus, with Village getting a nomination for The Game Awards' game of the year, there's clearly been no better time to be a fan of the series.
As rumours of new remakes begin to swirl, we may have already seen one confirmed - and it's not one that many fans would have expected.
Resident Evil: Code Veronica Is Getting A Remake
The lambasted little sister of the Resident Evil franchise is Code Veronica, and now, it's officially getting a remake - but not in the way you might think.
A small team of fans are working on their own version of the game, very much in the style of the Resident Evil 2 & 3 remakes.
The developers' website details that it will be "a remake made by fans that recreates the entire game, following the style of RE2 and RE3 remake and at the same time respecting the original game a lot. Gameplay totally reimagined and adapted, so you can relive the events of Rockfort Island in a whole new way."
When Is The Code: Veronica Remake Getting Released?
We're not exactly sure when the Code: Veronica remake is coming, but we last had an update from the team in October, insisting that the title is still on the way albeit a little later on, due to a developer's graphics card burning up.
Logically, Code: Veronica should be next in terms of the chronology of Capcom's remakes. Sadly, it looks increasingly likely that those at the top are abandoning Veronica in favour of RE4 - meaning this forgotten gem will once again be confined to the history books.
We might have to wait a little longer for the remake itself, but this is a reminder that the game is being made by such a small team, and makes us grateful that we're getting a remake at all. The Code: Veronica remake is a very ambitious project from a team of fans, and we can't wait to see how it turns out.
