Activision just fixed Infinite Warfare as Game Pass rumours gather pace

With Black Ops 6 landing on Game Pass at the end of October, the future of Call of Duty appears to be tied into Xbox's subscription service for the foreseeable future. 

Microsoft recently snubbed the chance to update fans on whether legacy Call of Duty games will also be coming to Game Pass, avoiding the subject altogether at the recent Call of Duty Direct showcase.

But that might not mean much, as Call of Duty's legacy games look to be getting updates ahead of a possible Game Pass arrival. It's all starting with the divisive Infinite Warfare.

Previously, Microsoft reactivated a number of legacy Call of Duty games' servers with the intention that they would likely be added to Game Pass in the future. The move saw an influx of players dive into the old games such as Black Ops 2.

Now, Activision has slipped in a surprise update to Infinite Warfare intended to fix matchmaking. The update is a random and sporadic fix to a problem that has been around for a substantial period of time.

Black Ops Cold War recently had a fix too, although it's not necessarily considered a legacy title given its accessibility through CoD HQ, but it does continue a theme of older Call of Duty's getting some love.

Why? Well, it only points towards Game Pass. Some fans are speculating that Xbox will use its appearance at Gamescom (as the only major console developer in attendance) to announce legacy Call of Duty games coming to Game Pass.

Others think they will be shadow-dropped either this summer to build up to Black Ops 6, or some time after its release hype begins to dwindle.

Maybe Activision could have fixed a nicer CoD, though. IW remains one of the franchise's least-loved titles. Black Ops 4 now, please!
