Advanced Warfare 2 Could Have Drastic Sci-Fi Impacts On Warzone 2

There's no escaping the sci-fi setting of Sledgehammer's Call of Duty, as Advanced Warfare 2 could have a big impact on Warzone 2.

The Call of Duty battle royale experience is getting a major overhaul going into the holiday season, with Warzone 2 changing the stylistics of the arcade shooter to become a longer and more tactile war of wits and patience.

But, it appears that the developers are already five steps ahead and are planning yet another seismic shift down the line that could see Warzone be taken over by jetpacks.

Since its conception in 2019, Warzone has been favoured by boots-on-the-ground gameplay, but with Al Mazrah taking inspiration from Blackout, among other titles, jet packs aren't long forgotten. Now, with an Advanced Warfare sequel reportedly under development, Warzone 2 faces an airborne era.

Advanced Warafre Sequel Could Lead To Jetpacks Warzone

The Warzone cycle is currently under the wing of Raven Software and Infinity Ward, with the latter plundering in the Modern Warfare 2 influence with weapons, movement, and map designs.

It's now been heavily rumoured that come 2024, and Treyarch take over, they will then lead the development of Warzone 2 alongside Raven Software and have already begun sketching out a new map.

So, with Sledgehammer's 2025 title being Advanced Warfare, notorious for jet-packs and sci-fi-driven gameplay, it certainly sparks scepticism around Warzone 2 being directly driven by the futuristic sequel.

To add fuel to the fire, popular leaker Ralph Valve, who first broke the Advanced Warfare 2 news, said, "As Warzone continues to age, so do strategies for bringing on fresh experiences to the playground, which could include their own futuristic twist on the Battle Royale formula".

Warzone 2 Could Soon Have Jetpacks

Much akin to how Black Ops Cold War and Vanguard adapted Warzone to suit their setting, Advanced Warfare 2 would likely also bring in a new map and the prospect of Exo suits, jet packs, and an advanced movement system.

One saving grace for those fans who might hate the AW era is that it's a possibility that Warzone developers could opt to keep each map that they create in rotation. It would work much like Apex Legends, meaning you'd have the option to flick between which setting you like.

The advanced movement settings fall well under Sledgehammer's guidance, who pushed the slide-cancelling meta to its limit during Vanguard.

With a good map, there's no reason why this couldn't become a pack-a-punched version of Blackout.
