Alien: Romulus release leads to Isolation 2 ‘leaks', but we're not convinced

With Fede Álvarez's Alien: Romulus bringing the horror back to the series, it's spurred rumours of Alien: Isolation 2, with one supposed 'insider' claiming it's been in the works for years.

In the depths of Reddit, no one can hear you scream. When it comes to horror franchises cashing in with lacklustre video games, few have done it quite like the Alien series. While live-action movies have had peaks and troughs since Ridley Scott's 1979 original, that's nothing compared to its video game output.

From the Pac-Man-inspired Alien on the Atari 2600 in 1982 through to the dumpster fire of Colonial Marines, we've seen Xenomorphs pop up in Mortal Kombat and Dead by Daylight before most recently getting Aliens: Dark Descent. It seems tough to nail a 'good' Alien video game...until you remember Alien: Isolation.

Alien: Isolation 2 'leaked' - but don't get your hopes up

Up there with the likes of Aliens: Infestation, Creative Assembly's Alien: Isolation is held as one of the few good Alien games. Giving us an immersive story and reintroducing Ellen Ripley's daughter from Aliens, Isolation is rightly remembered as one of the scariest video games of all time. So, where's our sequel?

Alongside playing Resident Evil 7 in VR, a few games will make your blood run cold like Alien: Isolation. Navigating the confines of the Sevastopol station, you had limited weaponry and had to use your wits to dodge the pursuing Xeno. There was a set of brilliant DLCs, and although sales were weak, Creative Assembly was once looking at a sequel.

Even though Creative Assembly moved on to work on the canned HYENAS and a slew of redundancies make an Isolation sequel look less likely than ever, a post on the GamingLeaksandRumours subreddit has piqued our interest. We'll start by reiterating there's no official source, just someone claiming they spoke to a former Creative Assembly dev.

Looking at the supposed 'leak', the OP claims that Isolation 2 has been in the works for three years and will continue Amanda's story while ignoring the events of D3 Go's Alien: Blackout mobile game. This isn't the only scoop, with a smorgasbord of supposed Alien leaks.

The thread continues to say that the hype surrounding Fede Álvarez's Alien: Romulus means a tie-in video game (expected to draw heavily from Isolation) is due to be announced soon. There's a supposed VR release and remaster of Isolation that doesn't involve Creative Assembly, however, all of the above could be teased at Gamescom.

This leaker maintains that the remaster should arrive as part of Isolation's 10-year anniversary, the VR game in 2025 to avoid clashing with Survios' Alien: Rogue Incursion coming this year, and the Isolation sequel in 2026. As much as we'd love to believe the above, the post has soon been torn apart by sceptics.

One wrote, "Anyone who has been following Creative Assembly closely in the last 2 years is going to struggle to believe this is true. They have been having problems, to say the least." Others pointed out that even if Creative Assembly was working on a sequel, it would have no idea about these other projects from other developers.

Summing up what most of us are thinking, someone concluded, "If it sounds too good to be true, it usually is." Going from having our Isolation 2 dreams dashed to a sudden influx of news about the IP would be a bizarre turn of events. Unfortunately, it looks like this is some randomer who is building off the hype surrounding Romulus.
