While Among Us has dipped away from the news and isn't at the heights it once was, the game is still going pretty strong. The secret-baddie multiplayer title took over during the pandemic, landing at just the right time to capture the imaginations of many and allow friends to come together to sleuth out a murderer in the pack.
Among Us redefined the wolf-in-sheep's-clothing gameplay experience in perhaps the simplest way, and proved to many that indie games could reach the soaring heights that AAA developers could only dream of. But now, it looks like the end of an era is coming for Among Us mobile players, as their devices could be locked out of the game.
Among Us mobile is losing support on some devices
Innersloth has revealed that Among Us mobile will no longer be available to players on certain devices from May 15. It may seem archaic for mobile devices to start locking players out of games for running behind in hardware statistics, but the change has been forced because of new "hardware limitations."
"There's a lot to come for Among Us, and while we wish we could continue supporting ALL devices, it just isn’t possible considering the vast amounts of old devices out there," reads the new blog post on the Innersloth site. "Especially as the game gets heftier with new content!"
It's a big shame that some Among Us crews could be forced to split up - especially considering mobile was its entry into the world of gaming - but it seems that the change is barreling on regardless.
What are the new Among Us system requirements?
If you're worried about requirements for Among Us on your mobile device going forward, it may not be cause for concern if you've upgraded your phone in the last couple of years - but there will no doubt be some who miss out.
The Android system requirements are as follows:
- OS: Android 6.0 or above
- Minimum RAM: 2.1GB RAM
And if you want to keep playing on iOS, here's what you’ll need:
- iPhone: Run on iOS 13.0 or later
- iPad: iPad Pro 9.7 running on iPadOS 13.0 or later
Among Us mobile's restrictions might've come from the blue, but it's likely that the murder mystery favourite can't keep moving forward without them. Check-in on your squad and say your goodbyes.
