Amy Hennig is back in the news, thank goodness. The video game director is finally making her return to the world of Star Wars with a narrative-led action-adventure title after the devastating scrapping of Star Wars 1313, perhaps the galaxy far, far away's best chance for innovation.
The Naughty Dog veteran has been dubbed one of the most influential women in the video game industry, and her work on the Uncharted games has more than exemplified this. But, her departure from the series for its fourth mainline instalment left a big impact, and that impact has been detailed in a recent interview.
What Happened When Amy Hennig Left Uncharted 4?
Amy Hennig leaving the Uncharted series was a big deal, and one that Hennig isn't caught often talking about - but in a recent appearance on the Couch Soup YouTube channel, Nathan Drake himself, Nolan North, was quick to comment on the controversial move.
"The biggest thing that most people probably remember is [....] we had shot Uncharted 4 with Amy Hennig for about seven months," he said. "We were well into the game, and she was dismissed from Naughty Dog, and they got rid of everything we did."
The game clearly had a lot of backtracking to do, and according to North, there were some huge changes made to Uncharted 4's story in the process too.
Uncharted 4 Almost Had Lots More Cutter
Hennig's departure supposedly made a big impact on the cast and story of the game, too. "They recast the whole thing," North continued. "The original cast had Graham McTavish… Cutter had a huge role in Amy's 4. Todd Stashwick played Sam and Alan Tudyk was Rafe. But they ended up switching it all out - Troy [Baker] came on to play Sam, and they added Nadine for Laura [Bailey]."
Amy Hennig's fourth Uncharted may have been a drastically different game, but the final product we got was still exemplary for the franchise - so it's hard to know how to feel about the changes. Either way, it's nice to see Amy Hennig back on the scene, and here's hoping that the creativity she brought to Uncharted shines through in her new Star Wars game.
