The gaming industry is practically bracing for impact right now. Sony isn't dropping any new franchise games in the next year, and Xbox's current focus seems to be bringing its older titles to other platforms. Why are they playing it so safe?

GTA 6 is perhaps the surest shot that gaming companies have at making money in the coming year. No matter if you take the side of Xbox or PlayStation, fans will be buying the game in droves, and there's little doubt that it's going to offer both companies a big payday.

We're told GTA 6 will be coming before the end of 2025, but now, analysts reckon that one company is really bracing for the impact of Rockstar Games' next automotive adventure.

Analysts predict a PS5 Pro for GTA 6 launch

Analysts are predicting what the gaming industry will look like by the time GTA 6 launches, and one has come forward to state that they expect some more super-charged hardware from Sony to accommodate the expectedly large game.

Speaking with CNBC, the CEO of Kantan Games Serkan Toto has revealed that he expects a brand-new updated console for the game's release.

"There seems to be a broad consensus in the game industry that Sony is indeed preparing a launch of a PS5 Pro in the second half of 2024," says Toto. "And Sony will want to make sure to have a great piece of hardware ready when GTA VI hits in 2025, a launch that will be a shot in the arm for the entire gaming industry."

We've all heard about the PS5 Pro and seen various 'leaked' specs, but remember that there still seems to be something standing in the way.

Can Sony’s losses afford a new console?

Sony's recent financial scuppering is hard to attribute to one cause, but either way, as the gaming giant has revealed that its sales for the PlayStation 5 went unmet last year and that it's adjusting its expectations accordingly, it raises the question - can PlayStation really afford to develop a new console, even a mid-generation upgrade, in the first place?

Though Sony is still drowning in money, it's still a pretty big risk for the company to take the plunge on a new console...even if it'd be a great accompaniment to the release of GTA 6. We'll have to see if it works out for Sony or if Xbox beats it to the punch.
