Everyone remembers just how terrible the Warzone King Kong and Godzilla event was. It might just have been the nail in the coffin of Caldera.
Aside from the wacky quirk that saw Call of Duty players gain XP for tickling Godzilla's plums, the event wasn't well-received, but it appears that Activision has something similar lined up for Warzone 2.
In the hope that they've learned from their mistakes, it seems like another King Kong and Godzilla-esque event is on the cards for Warzone 2, and this time, it could be Megladon's time to take over the battle royale.
Call of Duty tease another monster event for Warzone 2
Popular YouTubers "WhosImmortal" and "TheGamingRevolution" have both theorised that Call of Duty is up to something with Ashika Island that points towards a massive themed Warzone event.
According to the content creators, a monster lurks in the water of Ashika Island, as journal entries can be found on the map confirming a sea beast. As seen in WhosImmortal's latest upload, the journal entry reads, "Something has attacked the ships and we are now drifting back to the island and slowly sinking."
"The groaning noises from the ship's hull sound like a monster... or maybe it IS a monster." The YouTuber also pointed out that Ashika Island is filled with "shark" warnings in the water, and the icon for the POI shipwreck is a shark, which further backs this theory that we could see a Megladon monster arrive soon.
A potential Megladon crossover could kill Ashika Island in Warzone 2
The potential monster event in Warzone 2 could be a way of removing Ashika Island from the map rotation though, as we've seen special events be a way of transitioning from one map to another in Warzone lore.
The nuke event saw us move from Verdansk to Caldera, and now this Megladon-ish theme could serve as a catalyst for the next Resurgence map.
Maybe not-so-coincidental is the timing for this too, as the upcoming Amsterdam-based Resurgence map Vondel is expected to be coming in Season 4 (presumably in the mid-season update), which could see the shark-infested waters be a way of driving people off Ashika Island to take refuge in the Netherlands.
Should these teasers come to fruition, it's likely that the Megladon-like crossover event would come into play at Season 4's launch in June.
