Respawn Entertainment currently has Apex Legends poised in a state of limbo. The redefinition of Season 16 Revelry has been quite underwhelming, and the battle royale continues to go through a cycle of 'buying time'.

But, the clock is ticking for the developers to really catapult Apex Legends into new realms of popularity, and one specific Realm might just be forcing their hand to make some well-needed adjustments to the Ranked experience.

Realm, a custom-made Apex Legends mode explicitly tailored towards the best players in the game, has launched with immediate success. And now, threatening to 'kill' the ranked mode.

Realm could overtake Ranked in Apex Legends

Having launched on April 3, the Realm SoloQ League has been introduced as an Apex Legends league targeting Masters and Pros, where they will join stacked lobbies and replicate the professional experience with other like-minded players.

Having originally been met with a bit of scepticism, Realm has since become immensely popular for pros, given no cheaters can weave their way in. Now, popular TSM content creator and Realm leaderboard topper Mikkel "Mande" Hestbek has claimed that it could "kill" ranked.

"When the Realm is 24/7, I don’t think anyone is going to play ranked anymore," he said on-stream.

Mande claims Realm will kill Ranked in Apex Legends

"I can't wait for more Realm. I don't think a single person will play Ranked anymore," he reiterated. The popular streamer, who is third in viewership stats behind Philip "ImperialHal" Dosen and Nick "NICKMERCS" Kolcheff, slammed Ranked as "the worst content in years."

He wagered that no changes will come to the competitive playlist, especially given that they've already been hoping for an overhaul for 30 months.

Of course, Apex Legends Ranked will never truly die, considering that the non-Masters will be keen to progress through the ranks. But, wihle the upper echelons are being unpopulated, cheaters will run amock and ruin the experience for the legitimate ladder climbers.
