Out of all the Care Package weapons in Apex Legends, the Wingman is by far the strongest by a significant margin.

The pint-sized pistol's power and damage output can be absolutely absurd in the hands of a sharpshooter, especially if you land headshots.

As a result, since Season 19, players have been calling for a nerf. Finally, Respawn has answered their prayers. Instead of targeting the gun's damage though, the devs have taken an alternative approach that the community loves.

Apex Legends devs nerf Wingman in Season 20

Taking to Twitter on February 16, Lead Weapons Designer at Respawn Eric Canavese announced that a hotfix has been added to the game that has addressed the Wingman.

For starters, the nerf includes removing the Boosted Loader from the gun and the Ammo Reserves being reduced from 110 to 90. This should force players to be more conservative with their shots and mean slower reload speeds, opening up windows to counter enemies with the Wingman.

On top of that, the Digi Threat has been tossed to the wayside, with the Wingman locked to the 1x HCOG. To clarify, no other optic can be equipped to the Wingmanl, and you cannot remove the 1x HCOG to use the iron sights.

Overall, the community are over the moon with these changes, praising them as a massive "W" and claiming the devs are on "fire."

Apex Legends fans are disappointed optic is now "locked"

There is one point of frustration with the Wingman changes for some players, and that comes with the 1x HCOG optic lock. Certain competitors enjoy using the iron sights, especially on the Wingman, which has a clean default scope.

Taking that option away is unnecessary in the eyes of fans, and with no possible way of using the 2x HCOG optic either, it's ultimately less customisation for players.

As taking away the 1x HCOG lock wouldn't make the gun OP, the devs may go back on this decision, but we'll have to wait and see
