Apex Legends fans divided over whether Rampage LMG is 'horrendous' or 'OP'

Apex Legends fans are divided over whether the Rampage LMG is absolutely "horrendous" or secretly "OP."

Since the hard nerfs to SMGs in Apex Legends, Assault Rifles have started to dominate the meta and become the default options for the community.

Both the devastating Havoc and deadly accurate Hemlok are shining examples of guns that can easily hard-carry in Season 20.

There's one LMG that's always seemed to divide the fanbase, though, with half claiming it's an absolute beast and the rest arguing it's an awful weapon.

We're obviously talking about the Rampage, and on the verge of Season 21, competitors still haven't agreed whether it's actually any good.

Is the Rampage a strong weapon in Apex Legends?

Taking to the Apex Legends subreddit, user PoliteChatter0 decided to ask whether the "Apex community will finally admit that the Rampage is a good gun?"

As you would expect, this sparked a massive influx of opinions from players, with some making it clear the "Rampage is cracked if you have decent aim + any type of game sense." From their perspective, anyone who thinks the gun is bad simply because it doesn't have the skill to control its low rate of fire, which can be punishing if you're not deadly accurate.

Others in the thread disagree, arguing, "It has high damage potential per mag but loses against every AR in Time To Kill." The main criticism against the Rampage seems to be its lack of versatility, with it only shining in very specific situations.

While it devastates enemies from afar, competitors have slammed it for being "horrendous" at close quarters, mainly due to its extremely low rate of fire.

Apex Legends fans argue Thermite is needed to make Rampage "acceptable"

Rampage charging Thermite

A common complaint from Apex players in the thread is that the Rampage can only truly compete with the meta weapons when it's charged with a Thermite.

Unless you're a Fuse stacking the throwables, it can be awkward to fill your backpack with so many Grenades when you need room for ammo and other supplies.

"Without a thermite, it’s one of the worse guns in the game, with a thermite, it’s okay," argues one player, with another claiming, "With Thermite it’s great, I’d rather use the spitfire if I’m going for an LMG."

Overall, stock does seem to be low on the Rampage at the moment, so it'll be interesting to see if the devs give it any love in Season 21. However, as always, the Rampage feels a little like Marmite - you either love it or hate it.
