The map rotation in Apex Legends is a huge beneficiary of why people love the game so much. It's a battle royale like no other, where five engaging and ever-developing maps overlap on rotation to keep players entertained and fixed on progression.
But, having adopted a daily rotation method in Ranked - where the maps change every 24 hours - fans have begun to feel a bit overwhelmed. They've even criticised Respawn's new and "useless" system that only damages the competitive efforts.
What's wrong with Apex Legends Ranked?
Previously Apex Legends "splits" (a seasonal system when Ranked players will grind through before being reset to a lower rank at the start of the next season) saw one or two maps be placed into rotation, allowing players to grind one specific map and get multiple reps on the same map to continue improving.
However, with the daily map rotation, players feel like they cannot get used to the maps properly and it just becomes a heightened public playlist.
"As the title says, Apex having a split with the map rotation being daily makes no sense. It is just an arbitrary reset with no changes," claimed the angered fan.
Apex Legends fans want more distinction in Ranked Splits
Given splits are now blurred into one, with all maps playable at all times, players have now called on Respawn Entertainment to mix up their approach to each split.
"If Respawn wants to continue to do splits, then they should come with minor changes for each split," continued the fan.
"They should use the splits to make minor weapon damage adjustments or attachment adjustments and balance small number changes to characters. Nothing drastic but make it to where the split has value."
Keeping a different ruleset for each split would give players that typical learning curve that we've seen enforced through map learning, and would help with retention rates alongside the usual ladder-grinding.
The Ranked playlist has been an issue in Apex Legends for some time now. From the outside, gamers have often praised the approach and even emulated it in other games, but on the inside, Apex players are beginning to notice its flaws and an overhaul could be on the cards soon.
