Choosing which controller to use for Apex Legends can be a tough choice, but usually, it all comes down to preference and comfort in your hands.
Despite this, TSM pro player Philip "ImperialHal" Dosen has argued that the PS5 controller is the best choice, especially over the Xbox.

ImperialHal claims PS5 controller is best for Apex Legends
As showcased by Zipp, ImperialHal claimed on a recent stream that the PS5 controller is "broken" for Apex Legends when compared to Xbox.
According to him, the PlayStation controller is "so good" when it comes to input delay, and it makes such a "big difference" during intense skirmishes.
With improved input delay, you're more likely to get the first shot off on your opponent, and as a result, it gives you a big advantage in gunfights.
However, despite praising the PS5 controller, Hal revealed that he couldn't use one and still opts for his trusty Xbox controller.
Why does ImperialHal use an Xbox controller in Apex Legends?
Although the PS5 controller has better input delay, Hal can't use one as the 'shape and the size' of it does not fit his hand. Due to this, any attempts to use the PS5 controller have resulted in his movement and overall gameplay suffering as his fingers simply "can't wrap around the controller."
Despite this, Hal encouraged anyone with "big enough hands" to switch to the PS5 controller as the difference in input delay is a "huge advantage" in his opinion.
So, if you're struggling to choose between the two options, it's worth taking Hal's advice into account. Just remember, while input delay matters, comfort will always be the most important factor when it comes to picking a controller for Apex Legends.
