The best things in life really do come free, don't they? Well, for Apex Legends pros, it was cash that came free.

A range of Apex Legends players are reporting that they've been sent hundreds of thousands of dollars from the Global Series production partners Esports Engine, and while the league does have a massive prize pool, the hitch is that they never even played in the events in question.

Apex Legends players report massive ALGS pay-out errors up to $100,000

Over the last 24 hours, Apex Legends players have reported a range of discrepancies in their payouts owed by Esports Engine, as the tournament organiser has begun to send out the invoices.

One player, "Zeddo", who played under the Native Gaming banner, reported that they had received a notification of $100,026 coming to their PayPal, with EsportsEngineOhioLL congratulating them on their ALGS performance.

However, Zeddo doesn't compete regularly and has only actually subbed in for a single ALGS match. His owed cash revenue, at a maximum, would be $1,000 for Native's 13th-placed finish in Split 1, North America.

Another player, "xeriffer", also reported that they received $100k for "winning" the event, although the legitimacy of this claim is up for debate.

The ALGS circuit does have millions of dollars up for grabs, but in order to get the six-figure sums, you'd need to win the entire Championship - only the top two teams in the world managed to earn over $100,000 per player in winnings at the ALGS 2022-23 World Championships (the TSM trio and OpTic Gaming's threesome).

So, this makes the mistake even more alarming.

Apex Legends competitors hit out after a lack of payments for winnings

Other Apex players reported similar messages but were not as fruitful. One player, "Shooby", previously of Elev8 Gaming, reported that they had been massively underpaid.

The player claimed that they were owed a total of $5,600 from the 2024 Split 1 pool, but instead was notified of an incoming payment of just $512.

"This should be illegal," they said on X (formerly Twitter). "These tourneys were played months ago."

"I am also adding my name to the long list of players that have not been paid," added Will "TeQ" Starck, among others posting similar complaints.

EsportsEngine has not commented on the situation yet, although Apex players like Shooby and many others in his X replies are hoping that the prize money will be correctly distributed soon.
