After a season of neglect, and even longer spells of tinkering for individual legends, Support characters in Apex Legends are finally being honoured. This time, their buffs are making them a crucial part of any team.

Long-time Legends like Lifeline and Gibraltar have been whimsical at best, having their kits nerfed significantly from what they once were. Now though, Apex Legends Season 17 is bringing Support Legends back.

A new class-wide passive ability is being added to all four characters, which makes them must-have picks in your team.

Support characters get huge buff in Apex Legends Season 17

Having seen Apex Legends Season 16 form legend classes, most of the focus was weighed towards making a balanced pack amongst each of the five variants. But Respawn has now pulled out their Cupid's Bocek Bow and spurred an arrow right into the heart of the Support category.

As of Season 17, all four characters will be able to craft teammate's banners, even after they have timed out, and offer this ability out to teammates too. The change was given to Loba at the start of Season 16, who could build a player's banner once they have died and deliver it straight to a beacon to rebuild a game,

Now, the passive ability will come into play for Lifeline, Gibraltar, and Newcastle too. "Legend Banners can now be crafted by ANY player who has a Support Class Legend in their Squad," reads the Apex Legends Season 17 patch notes.

Apex Legends Season 17 buffs make Support characters meta

According to professional Apex Legends player Christopher "sweetdreams" Sexton, the change has now made Support characters "meta." Woah, that is insane. That is the most meta f**king change for ranked, ever," he said on stream.

The Season 17 buff means that Support players are a must-have on your trio in Apex Legends if you want to progress in Ranked, with any non-support trios living on the risky side of having their deathboxes camped.
