We hope Altaïr has been practicing his parkour skills because it looks like an Assassin's Creed remake is on the way to celebrate the franchise's 15th anniversary. With this milestone just around the corner in November, we've got to ask, when is Ubisoft going to make it official?
Taking place in the year 1191, Assassin's Creed is set during the Third Crusade. You take on the role of the modern-day Demond Miles, who is transported into the body of his ancestor, Altaïr Ibn-La'Ahad. This was just the start of the series, and across the years, we've seen everything from swashbuckling pirates to the French Revolution, Ancient Egypt to Viking adventures, and there's still no sign of it slowing down.
Is An Assassin's Creed Remake Coming?
Much like the recently announced The Last of Us remake, there have been plenty of rumours about an Assassin's Creed remake to bring the 2007 classic slashing its way onto new-gen systems. Even though Ubisoft just announced a roguelike mode and "final chapter" for Assassin's Creed Valhalla, fans are guessing Ubisoft is working on more.
The anniversary showcase was a bit of a nothing. It simply promised to reveal more about the AC world in September instead of showing off more information on the likes of the live-service Assassin's Creed Infinity, the Basim-led Assassin's Creed Rift, and the VR Assassin's Creed Nexus. Still, fans think they spotted a secret Assassin's Creed remake hiding in plain sight.
Posting on Twitter, one fan shared side-by-shots of AC1 and what we were shown in the showcase. It definitely looks like things have been spruced-up, but is that really enough to confirm a remaster? If you still aren't convinced, someone else tweeted that there's a brand-new logo for OG Assassin’s Creed - which was the only game shown to get an updated logo and the "Ubisoft Original" branding. Finally, they noted that AC1 is the last game on the community celebration roadmap that ends in September.
Fans React To Assassin's Creed Remake
Not everyone was convinced by the idea of an Assassin's Creed remake, though. One critic wrote, "If that is the colour scheme they are going for, the game is screwed already," while another added, "Honestly I don't think it is even possible to remaster this at this point" and pointed out how Ubisoft would need to redo lighting and structures. This in itself would make it feel like a whole different game.
Someone else simply grumbled, "Sir that is a pre-rendered trailer that’s been graded differently." Whether you want one or not, it looks increasingly likely that an Assassin's Creed remake is coming. Even though comments soon exploded with calls for Ubisoft to remake the lauded Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag, this could be the start of something big. Much like how Capcom has been churning out Resident Evil remakes, Ubisoft would be wise to churn out AC remakes on the regular. Come on, Edward Kenway.
