Assassin’s Creed Shadows looks like it’s trying to copy The Sims

If you fancy a bit of home improvement, it looks like Ubisoft has you covered with Assassin's Creed Shadows.

Assassins Creed Shadows Copies The Sims

After 17 years of Assassin's Creed games, we've almost seen it all. From the Third Crusade to pirate seas, Ancient Greece to Viking brawls, we're finally heading to the much-requested Feudal Japan for Assassin's Creed Shadows.

The next iteration of the long-running stealth series has promised a more traditional AC experience. However, that's been somewhat marred by accusations that Ubisoft has gone 'woke' and claims that the inclusion of Yasuke as a black samurai is 'racist'. Still, the team is full steam ahead for the game's November 12 release.

Assassin's Creed looks like it's adding Sims-inspired base building

They say that if you can't beat 'em, join 'em, with Assassin's Creed Shadows tipped to add a feature that reminds us a lot of Maxis, The Sims. IGN China shared a now-deleted dev diary, which has since been shared elsewhere. In it, we're told that players can customise buildings after dropping them into their home base.

While it's true that Assassin's Creed Valhalla had Ravensthorpe, it was nothing compared to the customisability options on display here. Described as "a way again of putting the player's adventure in full display, to be able to see how they create life as they go on their adventure," fans have spotted the similarities to The Sims.

Given an acre of land, your imagination can run wild as you place buildings, construct paths, and add amenities like water wells. It's unclear how in-depth this base-building system is, but reiterating that it's not just about hacking enemies to pieces with samurai swords, base creation looks like it'll offer some R&R.

We'd previously been intrigued by the idea of a customisable base, noting that the Ultimate Edition includes the exclusive Sekiryu Hideout Pack with ornaments and banners. It suggests this will be an extensive system, although we're yet to see it fully in action.

Shadows' Ubisoft Quebec last worked on Assassin's Creed Odyssey, which skipped out on giving us a base. It looks like Ubisoft Quebec is more than making up for this, and while we never thought we'd be playing The Sims in Assassin's Creed, we guess it makes up for a lack of The Sims 5
