We'd be wrong if we said Baldur's Gate 3 was your typical game. The Dungeon & Dragons-inspired fantasy RPG has duked it out with Diablo IV in 2023, and while they both have their pros and cons, Baldur's Gate 3 definitely has the competition licked in terms of out-there themes.
Before Baldur's Gate 3 even game out, players were left concerned (and a little intrigued) about the ability to f**k a bear. The devs warned this was just the tip of the NSFW iceberg, and since then, we've been left puzzled by the likes of clown sex. Now, another adult's only mystery has been solved.
What is Baldur's Gate 3's Realm of Naked Men
Baldur's Gate 3 has never shied away from 18+ themes, with full frontal nudity meaning wangs and woo woos are all over Faerûn. Still, Twitter user @amirdrassil questioned a bizarre area filled with naked NPCs. Dubbed the "Realm of Naked Men," it can apparently be glimpsed during character creation.
With a mix of character models, some have genitals, some don't, and there are different races and hairstyles, leaving us curious about why the Realm of Naked Men exists. One player joked, "The council judging your character creation in silence," while another added, "They’re about to perform I’m Just Ken."
As reported by GamesRadar, Larian Studios is well aware of the Realm of Naked Men. When the site reported on the mystery, a dev from Larian explained, "The Realm of Naked Men, as the internet has dubbed them, has many functions
"Primarily, they are used as VO dummies. When you select your voice in the character creator, it needs to be assigned to a physical dummy character in order to play." They continued, "So, one of these random naked dudes will pipe up from the shadows, playing samples of your chosen voice."
It sounds pretty grim for those trapped in the Realm of Naked Men, as Larian concluded, "The other use is to have a physical avatar assigned to the player in the background, while the player creates their own Tav. A cruel fate, indeed. Thanks, Naked Men!"
What do we know about a Baldur's Gate 3 DLC?
While it sounds like Baldur's Gate 3 will wrap with the main story, Director Swen Vincke hasn't completely ruled out the chances of a DLC. Discussing a Baldur's Gate 3 DLC, Vincke told the Dungeon & Dragons YouTube, "Well, you could do different things in [the DLC] so it doesn’t have to be necessarily at the end of the game."
Saying, "There’s different ways that you can do that," Vincke admitted the focus is on the Xbox version of Baldur's Gate 3, although a potential expansion could increase the level cap from 12 to 20. He concluded, "You'd need different stakes, different environments, different protagonists, and antagonists but it’s not undoable."
If Larian moves ahead with our hopes of a Baldur's Gate 3 DLC, we'd love to see the Realm of Naked Men expanded on. If not, at least we know they'll be stoically watching and judging our character creation.
