The Dark Knight is spreading his wings once again as Batman: Arkham Shadow arrives from the ashes of Rocksteady's Arkhamverse. While the acclaimed developer behind the first three Arkham games and the divisive Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League isn't behind the project, new blood is coming to Gotham City.

Coming to the Meta Quest 3 later in 2024, Batman: Arkham Shadow is being developed by Camouflaj and Oculus Studios, partnering with Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment and DC. More details on the next chapter of the Arkhamverse will be revealed during Geoff Keighley's Summer Game Fest on June 7.

The game's synopsis simply reads, "Evil stalks the streets. Gotham City is in danger. And you’re the only one who can save it," which sounds like the kind of riddle the Riddler would give us. Safe to say, our interest is piqued in this one.

Started by Rocksteady Games in 2009, the original Arkham Asylum soon ballooned into the beloved Arkham City and rounded off the trilogy with 2015's Arkham Knight. Away from Rocksteady's input, we've had the likes of Warner Bros. Montreal's Arkham Origins and NetherRealm's Batman: Arkham City Lockdown.

There were plenty of whispers about Rocksteady heading up a fourth game, but as time went on WB Montreal created Gotham Knights in a brand-new continuity, the former put its efforts into Kill the Justice League. We're told that KTJL is heading back to Gotham as part of its seasonal roadmap, but it remains to be seen if it'll tie into Arkham Shadow.

While most will always associate the Arkhamverse with Rocksteady, Arkham Shadow hopes to break those assumptions. Picking up the story in the ruins of Gotham City, we're expecting another original story that shines a light on the Bat Family and the inmates of Arkham.
