We're lighting up the Bat-Signal once again, as Batman: Arkham Shadow proves the mean streets of Gotham City could still do with some cleaning up. After Rocksteady Studios left Gotham behind following 2015's Arkham Knight, it's over to Iron Man VR's Camouflaj to suit up in the cape and cowl.

While we've always hoped for a true sequel to Arkham Knight from Rocksteady, Batman: Arkham Shadow is the next best thing as a prequel. The Meta Quest 3-exclusive title is coming in October 2024, with a new trailer from Gamescom's Opening Night Live showing off some of that beloved Arkhamverse combat.

Back to black

Although we were originally unsure about where Arkham Shadow is set in the timeline of these games, we now know it's between Warner Bros. Montreal's Arkham Origins and Rocksteady's Arkham Asylum. This adventure will focus on a more junior Bruce Wayne, with Origins' Roger Craig Smith once again voicing the Dark Knight.

Bruce Wayne's vigilante alter ego is taking on a new criminal known as the Rat King, dealing with the big bad and his cultish followers. The Rat King isn't the only potential thorn in Batman's side, with game alumni Troy Baker and Tara Strong reprising their roles as Harvey Dent and Harley Quinn.

The trailer literally puts us in the boots of Batman, boasting bone-crunching punches as an exhilarating experience as we glide across the Gotham City rooftops. Living up to the mantra of "Become the Knight", Arkham Shadow looks like an evolution of the Arkhamverse we've come to know and love.

Camouflaj tells us that Arkham Shadow will push the Meta Quest 3 to its limits, promising an up-close look at the famed Gotham City and "delivering an Arkham experience that will resonate with longtime fans." The Arkham games have always been known for their story, and as we try to beat the Rat King, you can bet there will be some twists and turns along the way.
