BioShock 4 is moving forward, but don't expect it soon

It looks like Cloud Chamber is on a hiring spree as BioShock 4 at 2K is finally moving forward. However, with things only just getting started, don't expect a release in the near future.

It's been 11 years since we soared up to Columbia with BioShock Infinite, and as it took us a million miles away from the watery depths of the first two games, it definitely divided players. While some of us thought we'd never see a fourth game, we know BioShock 4 is officially on the way...eventually.

After years of speculation, BioShock 4 was officially announced in 2019, with the newly formed Cloud Chamber heading up development. However, after five years, it seems we're no closer to finding out what's going on with the next dystopian adventure. There's a silver lining, but it's still hidden behind a large, grey cloud.

BioShock 4 is on a recruitment drive

BioShock 4 recruitment is ramping up

Away from rumours of an OG BioShock remake, a new LinkedIn post from 2K Cloud Chamber Senior Cinematic Designer Jeff Spoonhower has revealed that Cloud Chamber is on a recruitment drive for BioShock 4. He pointed us in the direction of the developer's recruitment page, with multiple positions currently open.

Cloud Chamber is looking for everything from a Senior Character Artist to Senior Combat Designer, Narrative Designer, and more. Most are based out of Montréal, with recruitment ongoing. The problem is, if we're only just recruiting for these crucial roles, it doesn't give us much hope that BioShock 4 is right around the corner.

Even the comments on Spoonhower's post show how much hype there is for the next BioShock, no matter how far away it is. Last year, we reported on an ArtStation post claiming that BioShock 4 isn't coming until 2028, which doesn't bear thinking about.

There are only snippets of rumours to go on, like BioShock 4 (unsurprisingly) being an open-world game, as well as whispers of an Antarctic setting or two reverse cities fighting a vertical wall. The setting of the next BioShock is sure to be the big draw, and after visiting Rapture and Columbia, we're excited to see what's next.

Even if BioShock 4 seems like it's lost at sea right now, BioShock creator Ken Levine is releasing a spiritual successor in 2025. Taking familiar faces from the Irrational Games team and founding Ghost Story Games, Levine's Judas will be the studio's first game. We might have to wait until 2028 to play BioShock 4, but hopefully, Judas can plug that gap for now.
