We hope you've brought your water wings because 2K could be about to plunge back into the BioShock series and explore the dystopian horrors of Rapture. Even as we look ahead to the long-awaited BioShock 4, it seems we might be going backwards before we can move forward.

First dipping our toes in this world back in 2007, the OG BioShock was a spiritual successor to System Shock - swapping space for an underwater adventure. It was massively successful and spawned a 2010 sequel and the wildly different BioShock Infinite in 2013. With more than enough time having passed, many think the original is overdue a remake.

BioShock remake could be in the works

Over on the GamingLeaksandRumours subreddit, fans have pointed to the LinkedIn profile of a 2K 3D Artist and Motion Capture Animator called Brett Shupe. Shupe's page mentions an "Upcoming Unannounced Remake," which has sparked hope of a BioShock remake.

It's interesting to note that Shupe is working on the upcoming BioShock 4, so it wouldn't be far away from his current work if he's also slipped into a BioShock remake. In the comments, others pointed out that the massive Nvidia leak mentioned a BioShock RTX remaster.

While the Nvidia leak is far from gospel, an increasing number of the games listed have been officially confirmed. Others have suggested that 2K might be shifting gears and could deliver a full-blown BioShock remake akin to Dead Space, Resident Evil 4, or The Last of Part I.

Gaming has come a long way in the 17 years since BioShock first released, and with much more recent games getting the remake/remaster treatment since, it's arguably overdue. As we had a remaster in the form of 2016's BioShock: The Collection, we're hoping for something more this time around.

Of course, BioShock isn't the only option for this unannounced remake. Starbreeze Studios' The Darkness, Yager Development's Spec Ops: The Line, and the original Borderlands were all mentioned in the comments, although BioShock seems to be the main contender right now.

With things going awkwardly quiet on BioShock 4, and Game Director Ken Levine delivering his BioShock-esque Judas in 2025, a BioShock remake could plug the gap and hype players for the next outing. As with all these things, it seems we'll have to wait a little longer to see whether our hopes have been unfairly raised.
