Game Science isn't 'monkeying' around, as it sounds like the developer might already have grand plans for a Black Myth: Wukong DLC. The animalistic action-adventure RPG isn't even out yet, but already, the team could be looking to extend its lifespan with a typically gruelling DLC.

Like a crossover between God of War and Elden Ring, Black Myth: Wukong is diving deep into Chinese mythology with what looks destined to be your next Soulsborne addiction. Hoping to prove that FromSoftware doesn't have a monopoly on the market, Black Myth: Wukong arrives just in time for those who've finally finished Shadow of the Erdtree.

Black Myth: Wukong DLC apparently already on the way

Over on the GamingLeaksandRumours subreddit, there's an apparent scoop from Chinese leaker Lunatic Ignus. As well as a respectable 40-50 hours completion time, Black Myth: Wukong is reportedly aiming for physical releases within a year, and the team is working on a 4K 60 FPS version for PS5.

The big (albeit unsurprising) news is that Game Science is already considering expansions/DLCs depending on how well the base game sells. IGN previously reported that the team plans on building a Black Myth universe similar to the MCU, with each game focusing on a different story from Chinese mythology.

Soulslike games are known for their DLC, with FromSoft showing us how it's done with the likes of Bloodborne's The Old Hunters and the aforementioned Shadow of the Erdtree. AAA games like Starfield have also hyped their DLCs, but remember that fantasy epics including Baldur's Gate 3 have opted not to give us one.

A Black Myth: Wukong FAQ, Game Science mentions, "In the future, we may release DLCs and NON-PAY-TO-WIN in-game purchases," although there's no official word at the time of waiting. Game Science is likely playing it safe and seeing what the scores on the door are before jumping into DLC talk.

While we haven't got our hands on Black Myth: Wukong yet, it looks like a suitably massive world that could easily have a DLC tacked on as we wait for the inevitable sequel. Sadly, the mention that it's probably not a Game of the Year contender and is more like Lies of P or Stellar Blade doesn't bode well for Game Science's plans for a sprawling franchise.
