As time goes on, Call of Duty fans are beginning to hold Treyarch in much higher regard, with both Infinity Ward and Sledgehammer Games dropping the ball in recent instalments of the franchise.

The owner of the Black Ops series has recently been hailed for its last title, with players flocking back to Cold War amid Modern Warfare 2's mishaps, spurring other fans to claim that a Cold War sequel could save Call of Duty

But with the Black Ops series being fond in the memories of players, it's actually the second title that is now swimming in the dreams of players. A popular petition to have Black Ops 2 remastered has now hit a remarkable milestone.

Black Ops 2 remastered petition hits 40,000 sign-ups

Although Cold War was warped into a catalyst for remastered Black Ops 2 content - with the likes of Raid, Slums, and Standoff all featuring in the map pool - it wasn't enough to stop many fans wanting more.

That said, a petition to fully remaster Black Ops 2 has now surpassed a whopping 40,000 sign-ups.  The petition states that they want a full remake of the game that is suitable for new-gen consoles (with backwards compatibility) that limits bugs and hackers.

The perfect remaster would also bring the guns and scorestreaks to multiplayer, a re-skinned campaign, League Play, and Zombies game modes. It all sounds pretty solid, but the question is, would Activision give the green light to a Black Ops 2 remaster?

A Black Ops 2 remaster 'would attract millions,' according to the creator

According to the petition creator Ethan Walker, "the CoD community would love this idea," before comparing it to the CoD 4 version by saying, "Like Modern Warfare remastered, it would attract millions of people which means millions of dollars [for Activision]."

The petition is swiftly moving towards the 50,000 mark with around another 200 members signing up on the daily. It's still quite unlikely that Activision will take action from this petition, given that Treyarch's next title will air in 2024, but it might be one for the future.

Unlike Capcom with Resident Evil, Activision isn't exactly known for remaking old CoD games, largely looking to the future instead of the past. Still, with a little luck, we could soon be reliving the days of using the AN94 and MSMC on Nuketown.
