We might've been starved of Zombies content in the past few Call of Duty games (with MW3 leaving us famished), but rest assured that we'll be gorging on human flesh in Black Ops 6. Call of Duty: NEXT promised us a buffet of reveals, and it's safe to say that we feel well-fed ahead of the game's October 25 launch.
Treyarch has committed to at least a year of round-based based Zombies, which should bring back some of that classic magic we remember from those early World at War days. More than this, we know the already announced Terminus and Liberty Falls maps will be joined by a third undead pal before the end of 2024.
Liberty Falls reveal gets a frosty reception
CoD: NEXT went hard on its Zombies content, with fans getting their first proper look at Liberty Falls. As ever in the expansive Zombies lore, things have gone to sh*t in this quaint town of Americana, with the trailer showing off comic book stores, bowling lanes, and a nightmarish church that looks like it's been pulled from Stranger Things.
Unfortunately for Treyarch, it seems it might've cooked too hard with Terminus. After the stormy seas of this Vietnamese island promised to be the biggest Zombies map to date, we always knew Liberty Falls would be smaller. Despite being warned ahead of time, unimpressed fans have been spamming the reveal with a big ol' L.
Saying that Liberty Falls looks "plain as hell," the team have been accused of delivering a rehashed multiplayer map and chucking a few deados in there. Namely, with Treyarch supposedly having worked on Black Ops 6 for the past four years, the harshest critics are asking where all the work has gone.
Others have accused Black Ops 6 of suffering from the 'Warzone effect'. Like how MW3 tried to deliver big with an open-world Zombies x DMZ experience but ultimately fell short, there are grumbles that modern CoD can't help but try to capitalise on Warzone's success.
Someone pointed out, "Idt they hate Liberty Falls I think they hate how much warzone design/mentality has bled into zombies." Another added, "They really should've been clear that this was the more "The Giant" type map. Sure they said it'd be the smaller one but I think them not being really clear screwed with what people expected."
Not everyone was against Liberty Falls, and with a reminder this is an early build of the map, there are some flying the flag of hope. One supporter cheered, "I don't get the hate, I'm getting Shaun of the Dead vibes, it's pretty cool. Oh well, Terminus Island looks dope too and we still have DLC 1 later this year, so plenty of flavor to go around, I'm sure."
The Zombies community is sometimes just as toxic as the Brain Rot ammo modifier, but then it wouldn't be CoD without having something to moan about. It seems that with Zombies, things have to be 'peak' or they're the worst thing to happen to the series. Whether you love or loathe Liberty Falls, we've got high hopes Treyarch can pull it off.
