Given that Infinity Ward has revealed how it's "happy" with the performance of Modern Warfare 2 even though boycotts are active amid the Nick "NICKMERCS" Kolcheff drama, you would never guess that there is resentment building in the Call of Duty community about how the game has turned out.
Over the last few weeks and months, countless Call of Duty critics have been popping up on Reddit and Twitter, with complaints about skins and performance issues on both MW2 and Warzone being the target of the disgruntlement, alongside increasingly expensive prices for cosmetics.
But even with the massively inflated prices, it seems that players are still emptying their wallets, as the Season 4 BlackCell Battle Pass is raking in the sales.
MW2 Season 4 Blackcell Battle Pass becomes Steam's third-best-selling item
Less than 24 hours after the release of Modern Warfare 2 Season 4, the new $30 BlackCell Battle Pass has leaped in sales again, and it's now beating some of the biggest games around on Steam.
Both Modern Warfare 2 and the BlackCell Battlepass are sat in the second and third place in the "Top Sellers" list on Steam, currently, only behind Counter-Strike: Global Offensive.
The bundle has now overtaken the likes of Starfield's pre-orders (which have rocketed since being showcased at the Xbox showcase), Lost Ark, Street Fighter 6, and the Steam Deck. It showa just how popular the black-and-gold Battle Pass actually is within the wider casual community.
Call of Duty die-hards hate that Blackcell sales are flying
With the popularity of these extortionate bundles being perceived as "the problem" by die-hard Call of Duty fans, many of these are now expressing their frustration at just how well they are selling.
"The vocal majority on Twitter who complain about COD and say that its dead are very much in the minority when it comes to sales for COD," said one fan on Twitter. "Just shows that people didn't care about the bundle situation in reality," added another.
With the popularity of the $30 bundle being so exuberant, it's likely that these packages will only continue to hit the store and ramp up the price of the rest of the cosmetics - leaving many players priced out of the coolest skins in the game.
