Overwatch 2's debut has been less than sturdy. The launch was pretty busy, with players being unable to actually get into the game, and as others experienced problems with moving their cosmetics and stats onto their new Overwatch 2 accounts, there are a lot of fires that Blizzard is trying to put out.
It certainly didn't help that the launch saw two whopping DDoS attacks on the game too, and the company has been struggling pretty heavily. But now, that struggle is set to make players worse off, as Blizzard is refusing to offer refunds for an unexpected bug.
Overwatch 2 Bug Is Taking Coins From Players
A new bug has led to Overwatch 2 players unexpectedly and unfortunately buying cosmetics that they don't want, and Blizzard is refusing to refund those who have suffered.
The bug was first revealed by a Reddit user who recounted their experience with it. They were typing a message in the game's chat, but the hero shooter seemed to interpret this as the player wanting to navigate to the shop and buy the Junker Queen Plutonium skin... that is particularly expensive.
The OP didn't have the time to cancel the purchase, and it went through without any opportunity for a refund of the in-game currency. It's a shame that the bug exists, but it's particularly poor form of Blizzard not allowing for refunds.
The Autobuy Bug Has Been Fixed
It seems like the bug itself has been fixed as part of the most recent hotfix, coming into effect today (October 10) - but it doesn't seem as though Blizzard is preparing to refund the players that have suffered from the bug. Blizzard has said "all those unlocks are meant to be final," suggesting that if you a problem, you should "provide feedback."
This is a massive shame to see the company refuse to do the right thing when it comes to a pretty rough glitch in the system, especially as it's costing fans very real money. While Overwatch 2 could've been a great time for a fresh start, it looks like the money-grabbing image of Blizzard isn't going anywhere.
