We're back in the throes of Elden Ring hype, and we couldn't be happier - because it's distracting FromSoftware fans from relentlessly demanding that we get a remake of one of their classic titles.
Since Demon's Souls proved that remaking a FromSoftware game can be truly breathtaking, players have been demanding that Bloodborne get the same treatment. Yes, that's even though it was launched only two console generations ago.
Bloodborne still plays like lightning, but with the visual upgrades and mechanical improvements that we could have, why shouldn't we at least ask? Though asking has turned to pestering, fans aren't letting up. Now, it turns out that the man behind the game (and one certain gaming phenomenon) is glad to see it.
Hidetaka Miyazaki loves to see calls for a Bloodborne remake
On a press tour for the immense reveal of Elden Ring's Shadow of the Erdtree DLC, the game's Director, who also happens to have directed Bloodborne, has revealed that he's glad to see players so passionate about the idea of a remake.
"It is a title we hold very dear and just as much as our fans," says Miyazaki when speaking with Eurogamer. "It does make me very happy to see that there are still so many people passionate about it." Although quizzed further, he wouldn't give anything away:
"Put simply, it makes me very happy to see it’s a title with a lot of specific memories, both for me and the staff who worked on it, [...] and when we see those passionate voices in the community, of course it makes us feel thrilled, it makes us feel very fortunate to have that and to have those memories."
What does this mean for a Bloodborne remake?
Fans have taken this detail and run with it - if Miyazaki is on board with fans asking for the title, that means we're definitely getting it, right?
Well, no. As a point of pride for Miyazaki, it makes sense he's happy that fans want to see Bloodborne updated for modern consoles, but if a remake was in the works, there's still a chance that he isn't connected to it. Miyazaki knows that Bloodborne is special, which can be true while also not expecting a remake.
Bloodborne fanatics are excited, taking Miyazaki's words as gospel that he's gearing up to head up the remake itself - but nothing is confirmed. We're sure Bloodborne will continue to trend at every PlayStation State of Play, but steel yourselves, brothers, for Yharnam isn't going anywhere, and patience is a virtue.
