Someone has dusted off the keys to the Family Sedan and put the pedal to the metal in Springfield with a bootleg copy of The Simpsons: Hit & Run. Trust us, you've never played the 2003 classic like this.
Back in 2003, The Simpsons was still in its stride - and it was long before we had the awful 'Lisa Goes Gaga'. Simpsons games were nothing new, but after the success of The Simpsons: Road Rage and the Grand Theft Auto games, Radical Entertainment wanted to merge these worlds.
What Is The Bootleg Version Of The Simpsons: Hit & Run?
Posting on Twitter, one gamer said how they'd downloaded a bootleg copy of The Simpsons: Hit & Run. Among the issues, the brake key isn't bound to cars, the left mouse button does everything, and all the voices are providing by one Russian man. Jeez, sounds like someone is trying to put Hank Azaria out of business.
In one hilarious scene, Bart, Milhouse, and Jimbo are all voiced by the same guy. Did he simply get given a copy of the game and do every voice in the same accent. We'd like to hope Marge and Lisa sound different to Homer and Mr. Burns. Either way, the OP said it's the best Christmas present they could've asked for.
Replying to the tweet, many pointed out that this practice is common to get games translated into Russian, with Oddworld Abe's Oddysee and Sonic Adventure DX being used as examples.
Someone said, "Yeah, it wasn’t unusual for Russian things to be dubbed by one person doing all the voices, sometimes in one take rapidly switching or giggling or making a crack at the line in Russian." Still, you can also download the bootleg copy if you want to.
Is The Simpsons: Hit & Run Getting A Remaster?
Sadly, bootleg copies of Hit & Run are all we have to make do with right now. Earlier this year, the game code was unleashed onto the internet - which gave rise to hopes we could see a fan remaster. Someone managed to remake the game in a week, although it was quickly yanked from the internet.
The problem is, the rights are much like GoldenEye 007 and are lost in a sea of development hell. Original developers at Radical Entertainment have moved onto different companies, while publisher Vivendi Universal Games has been absorbed into Activision. This is why we've never seen the beloved game leave the GameCube, PS2, and OG Xbox.
Producer Vlad Ceraldi previously said he'd love to see a remaster/remake for modern systems, but it's little more than us fans saying we want one. For now, the Car that Homer Built, Plow King, and Mr. Burns' Limo are all locked up at the Springfield impound lot - sob.
