Call of Duty games all getting cosy underneath one roof has meant that the new HQ has transformed from a measly umbrella back into a full-blown marquee - hustling and bustling with content across four titles.

As it stands, Modern Warfare 2, Modern Warfare 3, Warzone, and now Black Ops 6 are all jostling around and enjoying a few pints underneath the HQ banner. But if three is a crowd, four is nearly overspilling.

With the addition of Black Ops 6, Call of Duty HQ has been forced to undergo quite a makeover, and as it drops one of its largest updates ever, the developers are holding up their hands and apologising.

Call of Duty launches massive update for Black Ops 6 welcome party

The Black Ops 6 Beta is now available to be pre-downloaded on Call of Duty HQ, as Modern Warfare 3 Season 5 Reloaded has served as its piggy-back merchant.

That unfortunately means that those downloading the new MW3 are in for quite a surprise, as there are currently updates ranging from between 80GB and 100GB waiting for you - depending on the platform you play on.

With hard drives around the world grimacing at such a behemoth task, Call of Duty has apologised, knowing that there is an ulterior motive for the size of the update. As a way of an apology, the team has offered literal tokens of appreciation.

All players logging onto MW3 and Warzone in the near future will get a "free community pack," which boasts of ten Double XP and ten Double Weapon XP tokens alongside ten free battle pass tier skips.

"This initial download will not permanently add the stated file size to the storage space that Call of Duty takes up on your device,” Activision said in a recent blog post.

"The update is reorganizing game files and adding new tech to prep the way for the full player interface arriving in October. Once complete, Call of Duty’s footprint will decrease due to these file optimizations."

Previously, Activision revealed that this would be the last time it pushed through an update of this magnitude, as it also includes a file-shrinking formula that will make the existing games much smaller to house. Still, that doesn't help our melted hard drives right now, does it?
