Call of Duty might be one of the biggest and grandest franchises in gaming, but that's mostly thanks to its relationship with Xbox and PlayStation consoles. It's where most of the series' sales come from, after all, and typically the forward movement of its technical prowess matches up nicely with the respective console of the time. But it has never really jived with Nintendo's family of gaming machines.
Of course, there have been a few attempts, with the Modern Warfare and Black Ops games making their strange transition to the Wii and Nintendo DS, but it never really stuck the landing with gamers.
But, it looks like they're set to take another swing at the Nintendo crowd - but with a bit of a bizarre choice.
Black Ops 4 Might Be Coming To The Switch
In a strange turn, it looks like Black Ops 4 of all Call of Duty games could be coming to Nintendo Switch.
A new leak has suggested that, following rumours of a Call of Duty game coming to Switch following Microsoft's purchase of Activision Blizzard, Black Ops 4 has live servers on the Switch database, simply waiting for the game to arrive.
The leak was found by ResetEra user Atheerios, who discovered that the Activision Support site showed connectivity for Black Ops 4 on all consoles - including the Nintendo Switch.
This seems to imply the game is ready to go on Switch - but what does it all mean?
Why Is Black Ops 4 Coming To Switch?
Obviously, Black Ops 4 is a bit of a weird choice to come to Switch as we have moved many Call of Duty titles forward by now - but this could be part of a wider push to bring a number of franchise titles to the console. It's much too strange a choice to come to the console to stand alone - so there's potential for Modern Warfare, Black Ops Cold War and Vanguard to touch down on the console too. They might be in Cloud form, due to the games' huge storage requirements, but they'll be there regardless.
It might be a bit odd, but we're glad to see the franchise make the jump for the first time since Ghosts on the Wii U. Get ready to pull off some tasty trickshots with your JoyCons.
