Concerns over the working conditions of the staff at the Call of Duty franchise and beyond have been bubbling for a while. Ever since the accusations of a "frat boy culture" alongside swathes of reports of racism and sexual harassment within Activision Blizzard, the gaming community has been keeping a stern eye on the company and how it treats its staff.

Activision Blizzard has a lot under its wing, and one of those companies is Infinity Ward, the veteran Call of Duty developer behind this year's Modern Warfare 2. And it looks like toxicity has forced another member of staff from the franchise.

Modern Warfare 2's Composer Exits Game

According to a report from Variety, composer Sarah Schachner has departed from her role at Infinity Ward for Modern Warfare 2 and Warzone.

The composer, who has also contributed to Assassin's Creed Valhalla and created the score for the recent Predator prequel called Prey, has left the game as a result of her dynamic with the game's audio director, Stephen Miller.

"Over the past couple of months the working dynamic with the audio director has become increasingly challenging and I don’t see any path forward," she says. It's a shame that she's had to depart on such seemingly sour terms - but there's another problem.

Modern Warfare 2's Soundtrack Won't Be Schachner's Vision

In spite of her hard work on the music of the game, the post that Schachner made to reveal her departure from the game seems to imply that when the soundtrack is officially released, it won't be according to her vision.

"While I don't have any control over how the music is presented in-game, what will be released on the soundtrack is not my artistic intent in regards to mixing and mastering," adds Schachner. "Mike Dean was a part of the creative vision for the album as well as mixer Frank Wolf. We have soundtrack masters in hand from Mike which unfortunately you will never get to hear."

It's a shame that these masters will be lost for good, as it could have stood as a great piece of artistic expression in a product that many feel is devoid of such passion. It looks like Modern Warfare 2's music going forward could be a bit - well - shoddy.
