One area of collaboration that Call of Duty has yet to really explore is the superhero worlds of DC and Marvel. We had The Boys and its antiheroes, if you can call them that, but as far as Spider-Man and that gang go, it's very much Fortnite's territory.
That's until the rumoured Deadpool & Wolverine collaboration comes to fruition, as Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman's characters are set to land in Modern Warfare 3.
But despite some cool finishing moves, the collab might not be the superhero hit that we'd hoped for, as players are already questioning its longevity.
Call of Duty's Deadpool crossover already faces a sticky fate
The Deadpool & Wolverine leaks have proven to be quite popular, with the finishing moves especially drawing attention. One of Deadpool's finishers appears to be based on one of his classic misdirection pranks, while Wolverine's looks to be inspired by King Kong's yeet by using his claws to fling enemies through the skies.
As the leaks remain unconfirmed, the skin line has yet to be officially revealed. Even if this crossover boasts the perfect Deadpool outfit and Wolverine's yellow suit flutters in the Urzikstan sun like a beautiful bee, it looks like no one is queuing up to buy them.
The Modern Warfare 3 era is closing, and with it, we're losing two years of bundles and cosmetics. Black Ops 6 will stop the skin carry-over and will embark on a new military-heavy look before starting its own collab game.
With just four months of the current era left, players are planning on leaving the Deadpool & Wolverine skin firmly on the shelves of the store - knowing they won't get their money's worth.
"Ever since they announced they're no longer carrying skins forward in the base multi-player mode I stopped interacting with the shop at all. Not even looking at it," said one player on Reddit. "It's a waste of money," they continued. "Knowing I got to keep my skins between games made buying them palletable."
Others agreed, with a second fan saying, "It's an immense waste of money." There is a saving grace, though. Some vocal fans have said that if the collab actually gets Ryan Reynolds to voice his character, they would consider taking the financial plunge for the short MW3 period.
You can keep them forever on Warzone, but as the ever-disgruntled CoD community reminds us, many of them have abandoned this 'broken' battle royale. Sorry, but if you want to go up against Russell Adler as the Merc with a Mouth or clawed Canadian, you're out of luck.
