If you take a walk down Call of Duty's memory lane, you might see some quite amazing reflections piercing through your rose-tinted glasses.

But amongst all of the royalty flashing itself on the climb to CoD's own Mount Rushmore, with stops at Raid, Nuketown, and Highrise, you might end up bumping into a few Gustav Cannon-shaped potholes, saddening your mood.

Now though, some of the more popular maps of years gone by are being ridiculed, and one current remaster has been dubbed as one Gustav-level, and subsequently being crowned as one of the worst maps of all time, despite once being the best.

Modern Warfare 3 players call out 'truly awful' Rust map

Already this year, the legacy of Terminal has been slashed into oblivion, as Modern Warfare 3 players have torn the flawed map apart and even axed it from Ranked playlists after a painful trial.

Now, Rust is in players' crosshairs, as Call of Duty fans have taken to ridiculing it on Reddit.

In a post on the platform titled, "Rust is truly an awful map and I have no idea why everybody liked it back then," players have labelled it as a "smaller version of Gustav Cannon," which is renowned as the worst map ever made.

MW3 fans fire off at Rust

While Rust did have some defence from fans claiming that its first iteration was good due to the slower-paced game and lower skill ceiling, most players agreed that in the modern era, Rust sucks.

"Map probably worked a lot better when people couldn't fly around the map slide cancelling and hit cross-map jump shots consistently," one fan added.

Other fans also pointed out that this map does not fare well on game modes of the current era like Hardpoint, which quickly messes up spawns and results in chaos.

"Rust was only available in FFA and TDM back in the day," one fan said, as another added, "Objective modes on small maps are pointless as far as I'm concerned. You get players ignoring objectives on bigger maps and farming kills but it's multiplied worse on smaller maps."

Still, most players remember Rust for its real purpose: 1v1s. And it will always be the king of the head-to-head matchups, rather than the core gameplay.
