Released all the way back in 2014, Advanced Warfare was the first Call of Duty title to introduce jetpack-style movement to the franchise.
This futuristic and fast-paced form of movement was replicated in Infinite Warfare, as well as Black Ops 3 and 4. Following this, the CoD community made it clear they wanted the developers to return to boots-on-the-ground gameplay, and that's exactly what they did.
Now, with Modern Warfare 3 on the horizon, the jetpack debate has resurfaced and fans are divided over whether they should return.
CoD fans are desperate for jetpacks to make a return
Taking to Twitter on September 11, popular CoD Twitter account ModernWarzone asked fans "Should jetpacks make a return" to Call of Duty in a future title.
This sparked a huge response from players, with a lot of fans making it clear they want advanced movement to make a return. For them, the standard gameplay that revolves around moving on foot across a map has got stale and doesn't have much room for innovation.
"The last great CoD era was modern warfare and black ops 3-4 so the answer is obviously yes," said one user, with another arguing, "Absolutely, Warzone needs to start moving towards the future - Black Ops 3 and 4 movement and Operator Abilities would make Warzone the TOP BR to play."
As always, movement is a divisive topic among CoD players, and jetpacks are certainly no different. While some are passionate about their potential return, others hate the idea of them making a comeback.
Other CoD players beg developers to never bring jetpacks back
For certain CoD fans, the idea of heading back to the days of Advanced Warfare is enough to cause nightmares, and jetpacks are just a reminder of that "trash" period for Call of Duty.
"Nah Advanced Warfare was hands down the worst COD I’ve ever played," said one user, with another arguing, "No keep jet packs out of the game! Just seems dumb, If you want that type of play load up Halo."
While MW3 is the primary focus for Activision at the moment, there's always a chance jetpacks get their place in the spotlight once again.
It's worth noting that Warzone 2 recently implemented superpowers into the game for a limited-time crossover with The Boys, so jetpacks certainly wouldn't be out of the question.
