Call of Duty fans feel lied to about Season 5's big collaboration

Call of Duty has revealed a massive WWE crossover for Season 5, but with rumours of a Deadpool & Wolverine collaboration, some fans are rightly annoyed.

Get ready for a battle royale rumble because Call of Duty has just revealed its big crossover for Modern Warfare 3 and Warzone Season 5. While the upcoming Black Ops 6 promises to bring back some of the franchise's realism, it looks like Warzone will remain a melting pot of King Kong, Nicki Minaj, and weed sloths.

We seem to drift away from CoD' mil-sim roots with every update, and while the collaborations get increasingly outlandish, there was one wild crossover that we were actually looking forward to. With Shawn Levy's Deadpool & Wolverine just around the corner, we were psyched for the comic book caper to land in CoD.

Call of Duty's Season 5 collab isn't the one you wanted

The official CoD socials have confirmed a smackdown for July 24, teasing that Season 5 is getting into the ring with the rumoured WWE collab. We were sold on the idea of the Merc with a Mouth and clawed Canadian tearing it up in CoD, especially with Deadpool & Wolverine releasing on July 25.

When news of the WWE collab did the rounds, fans were obviously annoyed One disgruntled gamer wrote, "Wtf this isn’t Deadpool I want a refund," while another added, "F**king call of duty 🙄 Deadpool and Wolverine is so much cooler than fucking WWE. I’d much rather be playing as a badass mercenary played by THE Ryan Reynolds than a dude in some weird outfit doing scripted fake 'wrestling'."

A third said, "If we get this instead of the Deadpool collab I'm not playing next season can't lie," and someone concluded, "You picked this over Deadpool vs Wolverine? Why WWE in Call of Duty?" It's important to remember that Deadpool & Wolverine was never confirmed, but simply, a series of finishers looked pretty Deadpool-esque.

Confirming our fears, CharlieIntel reiterates, "There were rumors from data miners claiming that there would be a Deadpool collab for Call of Duty, but that is not true. The Season 5 collab is with WWE." Like with Fortnite, CoD dataminers are usually pretty on it, but this could be one of those rare times they were wrong.

It's possible that Deadpool & Wolverine could appear further down the line, but with the start of Season 5 lining up perfectly with what's looking like 2024's biggest movie, it seems the time has passed. Whether the Deadpool & Wolverine crossover was shelved or we simply got our hopes in, we're angrier than a Red Hulk.
