For the last five years, Call of Duty has been firmly rooted on the ground, dragging their eccentric characters through the mud and trenches.

But maybe five years of boots on the ground Call of Duty is enough?

With many players getting back on titles like Black Ops 3 and 4 in the last few weeks, amid the Modern Warfare 2 decline, players are finding their feet in the air again and are calling for the franchise to take to the skies again.

Call of Duty fans want 'boots off the ground' games back

World War II put an end to the "jet pack" era of Call of Duty, with Advanced Warfare, Infinite Warfare, and back-to-back Black Ops installments all being left behind.

However, nostalgia is kicking in again, and following previous calls for an Advanced Warfare 2 title, players are wanting to get their feet back in the air.

This new wave of jet pack wishing comes off the back of former professional Jared "Nagafen" Harrell pulling off one of the best wall-runs ever seen on Black Ops 3 ending in a ninja defuse in a throwback wager challenge.

Nagafen took to the air on the Redwood map on Black Ops 3, swinging from tree to tree to avoid making footstep noise, and ended up landing directly next to his opponent planning the bomb on the other side of the map, and stuck in a ninja defuse, sending fans into a frenzy at how fun it looked.

Call of Duty fans call for Treyarch to take us airborne again

With the clip nearing 1,000,000 views, fans are now begging to have this type of game back.

Popular journalist Jacob Hale took to Twitter to plead to Treyarch, saying, "Boots OFF the ground next year please."

Others agreed, with one fan adding, "Yes, we need this. One of the best CODs."

We also recently saw players such as Brandon "Dashy" Otell call for these games to return, although his "casuals ruined Call of Duty" rant might not have been the best approach.

Treyarch is set to be using the Gulf War setting for their next game in 2024, meaning we're likely not getting jet-packs here, but maybe once the Modern Warfare series ends, Call of Duty might finally get back in the air again.
