Ever since it was revealed that Activision Blizzard was set to be swallowed up by Xbox, the conversation turned immediately to what the merge would mean for Call of Duty. It mainly revolves around what Xbox will do with this new power - when will it make the series a console exclusive? And when will we be getting a Call of Duty Game Pass future?
The franchise is one of the biggest in the world, and though many of its players will publicly roast it, it's hard to deny that it has an immense pull in the gaming industry. Well, as it turns out, the arrival of Call of Duty on Game Pass might still be a little while off. Sorry.
When Is Call Of Duty Coming To Game Pass?
According to leaker Tom Henderson, it's not likely that Call of Duty is going to offer Xbox consoles any exclusives for a good few years to come. As far as Henderson understands, the advertising deal that allows Sony to maintain some bonuses in the Call of Duty franchise for PlayStation consoles will continue for the next few games.
This means that Modern Warfare 2, the upcoming sequel to Warzone, and whatever the upcoming Treyarch game ends up being, won't be making its debut on the Game Pass on day one. It does, however, mean that PlayStation will be getting some extra goodies along the way.
Why Is Sony Getting Call Of Duty Exclusivity?
As revealed recently, PlayStation will be receiving access to the beta of Modern Warfare 2 earlier than Xbox will, and if Henderson's word is anything to go on here, it means that similar perks will likely be available for each of the upcoming Call of Duty games between now and 2025... at the earliest.
It's still unknown what these future perks could be, whether they be PlayStation Plus packs for Warzone or more early betas, so we'll just have to wait and see. Either way, those worried Sony fans can rest easy for a few years.
Though Xbox fans have been hoping to see the results of the purchase of Activision Blizzard a little sooner (and we still might, what with legacy titles still not arriving on Game Pass as expected), but it looks like PlayStation users aren't missing out just yet. In fact, they're reaping the rewards pretty nicely.
