The spooky season isn't just a time for us to whip out the green face paint year after year, churning out costumes as witches, Frankenstein's Monster, or the girl gremlin. It's also quite the date on the video game calendar.

As free-to-play shooters dominate the charts, the likes of Apex Legends, Call of Duty, and Fortnite continue to get us to part with our cash for a series of horror-themed skins and crossover events. Call of Duty's Halloween spooktacular is one of the biggest, with us still having nightmares over The Haunting of Verdansk's Leatherface.

Evil Dead crossover teased for Call of Duty's Halloween 2023 event

2023 is poised to bring back its "Haunting" event, and while the devs are still keeping this haunted Jack in its box, a massive leak of upcoming Operators appears to have spoiled the slaughterfest surprise ahead of time. Among this year's big crossovers, it looks like Evil Dead will be the main one.

Task Force Leakers Network has been doing some digging in the back of the files and has found mentions of Ash, Alucard, Skeletor, and Spawn. This points to Evil Dead, Hellsing, Masters of the Universe, and Spawn crossovers. Elsewhere, a mention of "Butcher" apparently isn't related to The Boys, but Diablo IV's Butcher.

Whether coming in Season 5 Reloaded or MW2's sixth (and final) season, it's good news that we're getting a Halloween hurrah in 2023. Last year, the release of MW2 on October 28 sadly meant we missed the ghost ship on this one.

Call of Duty's Halloween event sounds like a scary surprise

The leaks don't end there, and there's a smorgasbord of other tricks and treats. The same account has been on the rampage with Halloween leaks, claiming that the Warzone train will be replaced with a "Hell Train." If that wasn't enough, a series of sounds suggest Infinite Warfare's Zombies in Spaceland will return.

As with all Call of Duty Halloween celebrations, there are events galore. Mysterious mentions of a Ghost Hunter event and a zombies overhaul for multiplayer mean there's something for everyone - not just those who dive in Warzone.

The good news is that Modern Warfare 3's carry forward system means that if you're willing to splash out on Ash or Skeletor this Halloween, you'll be able to play with them in the next game. Either way, it's time to accept that the Mil-Sim era of the CoDverse is well and truly over.
