As the fourth and penultimate season of Modern Warfare 2 rears its head, Call of Duty has announced that it will bring a conclusion to one of the main storylines in the series.

Following the climactic end to the Modern Warfare 2 campaign, the remaining Task Force 141 associates and recent recruits have continued the storyline through co-op missions called Raids.

But after three episodes (and one more to come soon), Call of Duty is now shutting Raids down early - discontinuing the next chapters of Alex and Farah's legacy.

Modern Warfare 2 Season 4 will be the last Raid

Modern Warfare 2 Season 4 is ending Special Ops missions with a bang, as it has confirmed that Raids: Episode 4, will be the final chapter before "Redacted" - ominous, huh.

So far, Raids has been a way for players to unlock more and more Task Force 141 and mil-sim aesthetics like skins and blueprints, which has been a popular addition for those who like to sport real-life cosmetics.

"In addition, expect Farah to receive a new Operator skin for those who complete RAID Episode 04 later this season, an exciting conclusion to the Modern Warfare II Campaign’s direct continuation."

MW2's Raid conclusion could end with a huge MW3 leak

With Modern Warfare 3 now set to arrive in 2023, it's likely that Raids are being halted to focus on the new campaign, as the set of beloved characters will take on their next big threat: Makarov.

Makarov appeared in the post-credits preview of Modern Warfare 2 and is poised to be the focus of the next campaign, as the familiar foe starts his mile-high vendettas.

However, the Call of Duty blog has hinted that another "extraordinary" Operator is coming during Season 4 reloaded, alongside a crossover with The Boys, indicating a possible Makarov tease.

"Expect something extraordinary to come to the Operator pool as part of the Season 04 Reloaded update," the blog says.

Whether it be Makarov or someone else, the conclusion of Raids might not be too sad after all, as it's clear to see that they will continue to embed into the Modern Warfare 3 campaign too.
