Players competing in the Call of Duty League Major, hosted in Fort Lauderdale in Miami, have been escorted out of their rooms hours before the tournament is set to start. It comes as police combat reports of active shooters around their hotel.

The CDL Major II in Miami has players housed in hotels around the venue of Broward County Convention Centre, one namely being a Holiday Inn, which armed police have raided amid calls of active shooters. Reports have indicated a number of shooters have been in the area, with around "30 shots" fired.

Minnesota ROKKR and New York Subliners players appear to be among some of the CDL stars in the hotel, as Lamar "Accuracy" Abedi has taken to social media to update fans. "Just woke up to the cops raiding the hotel room next door and at least 30 shots fired," Accuracy said.

"Just got taken out of the room with m16s everywhere and pulled to the lobby in my boxers this is insane." Major US outlet CBS News has confirmed that the shooting occurred inside the hotel, too. One witness has revealed bullet holes could be seen, and guests were ushered into safer rooms.

In the exchange, which reportedly occurred inside one of the ground-floor rooms of the hotel, one officer has reportedly been shot, while the suspect has apparently been pronounced dead.

"The police scanner said there’s an officer down near the hotel down the street a little," said NYSL player Matthew "KiSMET" Tinsley. This has been corroborated by CBS News, which confirmed that one officer has been hospitalised after being shot. Another officer was treated for injuries, although they had not been shot.

CBS quoted Fort Lauderdale Police Chief William Schultz, who confirmed three officers returned fire on the gunman, who was found dead and alone after a SWAT team raided the barricaded room.

Call of Duty fans in attendance should remain on high alert to stay safe in between visiting the arena and transferring back to hotels. The incident is thought to have been a one-off. The CDL is expected to continue on time, as both New York Subliners and Minnesota ROKKR appear to have made it to the arena.
