After two years of Modern Warfare mediocracy, hopes were high that Treyarch would take the reigns for a double-header of Black Ops, which was only heightened when teasers for BO6 teed us up for the most promising CoD game in years.

Previous leaks claimed that Treyarch was producing back-to-back games with a Black Ops 2-ified seventh game following in 2025.

But new leaks claim that Black Ops 7 - or rather the unnamed Treyarch title in 2025 - has been canned, while Warzone 2 also faces a perilous end.

Black Ops 2025 has reportedly been scrapped in favour of MW4

Recent reports claimed that Modern Warfare 4 - Infinity Ward's next game - was facing a lot of trouble given Black Ops' new omnimovement that is quite the diversion from the usual slower and casual-friendly Modern Warfare series. The reports claimed that IW was facing pressure from Activision, as the studio was "unhappy with the narrative and mechanics of the game."

Yet, it now seems like this Modern Warfare 4 is actually being pushed forward, as leaker page "CoDWarfare" has claimed it's lined up for 2025.

"There is no Black Ops 7 game in 2025. IT IS MW4 Developed by IW," they said on X (formerly Twitter).

The page posted files that claimed "Rex" referring to the codename for MW4 being penned in for 2025, while "Sat", referring to Project Saturn as Black Ops 7 was "overridden".

Warzone 3 is reportedly in the works

What is more surprising is that Warzone 3 was also found within the files, which could mean that the title as we know it could be in for a big change - and the skins that are available will be left behind again.

The third iteration of the BR looks to be coming with Modern Warfare 4 (Rex), meaning that we might only get a matter of six months playing Verdansk again, given it has been delayed from Black Ops 6's launch to around Season 2.

Warzone 2 hasn't quite lived up to expectations, and bringing Verdansk back to mark the end of its lifetime would be quite a bold move. Maybe it might have served better as the opener for this rumoured Warzone 3.
