It has been indirectly confirmed that the next Call of Duty title is going to be a new addition to the world created in 2019's Modern Warfare reboot, and it's safe to say that fans are very excited.
The first game brought a breath of fresh air back to the franchise with an engine that fans have dubbed the very best of the franchise, and with it bringing Warzone to life, Call of Duty fans owe a lot to it. It seems a lot of developers want to get in on the action, and it could muddy the waters of Modern Warfare 2.
How Many Studios Are Attached To Modern Warfare 2?
Ever hear the phrase "too many cooks spoils the broth"? Because it doesn't seem that Activision has. Rumour has it that Modern Warfare 2 is widely acknowledged as a big deal among Call of Duty's developers, with all of them participating in making the game great. Leakers have now suggested that 11 different studios are a part of the game's development. Blimey.
Leaker RalphsValve revealed the news on Twitter, in a post that names - take a deep breath - Demonware, High Moon Studios, Toys For Bob, Infinity Ward Austin, Poland & LA, Beenox, Activision, Raven Software, Sledgehammer Games, and Treyarch as teams working on the game.
This is… intense. There are a lot of devs at work here, and though it's to maintain quality, this does not bode well for the game.
Will Having 11 Studios On Board Really Help Modern Warfare 2?
The realistic answer is no, the huge mass of developers attached to this game is only going to muddle the direction of the game and dilute the intentions of the title's initial concept. We've already seen problems like this crop up in Vanguard's Zombies mode, with Treyarch being stretched so thin in their contribution to the game that the mode is entirely disappointing and forgettable.
It looks like the franchise hasn't yet learned its lesson from this, and as such, Modern Warfare 2 could be in trouble. This is alarming at best, but we're hoping that the quality of the game isn't compromised as a result of this cramming of developers. "All hands on deck" has rarely sounded so concerning.
