Call of Duty's introduction of an internal currency was controversial, but to be fair to them, it's worked nicely. The arrival of Warzone and its free-to-play Call of Duty experience brought about a new reason for the franchise to make money.
Thankfully, the introduction of huge amounts of cosmetics has helped to revitalise and recreate Call of Duty entirely. It's a currency that's flourished for the series - but for some reason, it's all spinning out of whack, as players are reporting that they're getting them for free.
How Are Players Getting Free CoD Points?
For some reason, be it bug or hack, players are reporting that they're being credited with CoD point that they never paid for or earned in-game. The currency used to buy packs and cosmetics in Warzone and Vanguard is appearing in player accounts all over the place for unknown reasons, and they're all in the same sum.
Players report getting free points, with all of them saying that they've been given 5000 CoD points. This is the equivalent to £35 in real cash. Blimey, that's a lot of Mechagodzilla skins if you're up for the Godzilla vs Kong crossover.
The bug was detailed in a Reddit post that revealed the amount being credited to player accounts - and the original poster has checked their bank balances to make sure that they haven't been charged for the points. They haven't. How bizarre.
Players React To Free CoD Points
Players have rallied up in the comments of the post, with many of them urging the player to double-check they haven't been hacked, with the OP insisting that they've got two-factor authentication applied, meaning it's seriously unlikely.
But, others are urging the poster to take full advantage. "I'd spend them before they are gone," says one commenter. "They can't do anything about it."
"No way would Activision give out points for finishing challenges lol," says another. "Just consider yourself lucky and don't tell anyone else."
It's an incredibly lucky bag, and if it were us, we'd be spending them as soon as possible. We might even treat ourselves to the new Godzilla and Kong cosmetics, no matter how weird they are. If you've got it, spend it.
