Call Of Duty Called Out For Its The Walking Dead Crossover

The spooky season is almost upon us, and with it, Call of Duty is embracing the more macabre side of Modern Warfare 3. Even as most eyes are on Black Ops 6, Sledgehammer Games isn't taking 2023's CoD offering to the grave just yet.

As things wind down on Modern Warfare 3, Season 6 looks like it'll be going out with a bang. As well as the return of The Haunting event and Michael Myers, we've got newcomers, including Trick 'r Treat's Sam and Art the Clown from the Terrifier movies. Topping it all off, there's another crossover with The Walking Dead.

Call of Duty players cook Modern Warfare 3's Daryl Dixon bundle

It feels like we've passed the peak of The Walking Dead hype, after all, the main series concluded back in 2022. AMC is keeping the IP alive through spin-offs like The Ones Who Live, Dead City, and Daryl Dixon. With Daryl Dixon Season 2 on the way, Norman Reedus' shaggy-haired loner is finally coming to CoD.

Like we had multiple crossovers with Amazon's The Boys, the lure of The Walking Dead's popularity means the CoDverse was always going to milk this cash cow for all it's worth. Even though we're still bummed there isn't a bundle for Jeffrey Dean Morgan's Negan, Daryl Dixon is the next best thing.

As one of the best characters who was unique to the live-action TV series, Daryl was a mainstay of the show's entire run and served as Rick Grimes' (Andrew Lincoln) right-hand man. Daryl even got to lead his own series in the spin-off of the same name, and with Daryl Dixon Season 2 debuting on September 29, a CoD bundle makes perfect sense.

Unfortunately, the reveal of the “Tracer Pack: The Walking Dead – Daryl Dixon” Operator Bundle has been called out for a pretty blatant blunder. Even though it might seem like a small gripe, the fact that one of the Daryl variants features the Operator in a CRM soldier outfit is factually incorrect.

Daryl's search for Rick has taken him to France, meaning he's avoided crossing paths with the CRM. It was Rick who wore a CRM soldier outfit in The Ones Who Live, and while we're sure those who spotted it will be called out as 'nerds', others have suggested the designers brush up on their TWD lore.

One disgruntled gamer wrote, "COD can’t even get Daryl Dixon right he never even wore the CRM Armour it was Rick Grimes clearly whoever did this needs to watch The Walking Dead and The Ones Who Live 🤦🏼‍♂️" Another grumbled, "Why is Daryl wearing a CRM outfit  from Richonne’s spin-off  he’s not in that spin-off never ever worn that uniform either 😂😂😂😂😂."

Outfit inaccuracies aside, the Daryl bundle has another big problem. After enjoying a shared ecosystem of the Carry Forward feature, Black Ops 6 is starting from scratch. This means that all your hard-earned skins will be available in Warzone but useless in multiplayer. With this, there are complaints that Daryl is releasing too close to the next game.

We could probably forgive Daryl for wearing the wrong outfit, but with a last-minute Halloween bundle feeling like a hollow cash grab to try and capitalise on the fan-favourite character and his TV series, we imagine a lot of you will be giving this one a miss.

Whatever you're paying Fark for links is worth it because they delete any comments that are even slightly critical of this site. Like goddamn. It's embarrassing. But this is an operator skin that pays homage to the series regardless if the character was a part of that faction or not. You going to make an article about how Michael Meyers uses guns despite never doing so in his movies? These are all fan service items like pretty much all live service games do and isn't meant to be a 1:1 representation.
