In Call of Duty's long history, the game's multiplayer has provided players with countless maps across a variety of locations, but only a selection of them have earned iconic status.

Highrise, Rust, Shipment, Crash, Terminal, and Firing Range are just a few examples on that esteemed list, but there's one map that stands above the rest in the eyes of a lot of CoD fans.

We're obviously talking about Nuketown, a small and chaotic map that has been remade and remastered into multiple versions over the years. However, Call of Duty players are divided over which Black Ops game introduced the best Nuketown map.

What's the best version of Nuketown in Call of Duty?

Taking to Twitter on July 6, Call of Duty account CharlieINTEL decided to ask players, "What's the best version of Nuketown?" This question sparked a huge debate within the community, with every single iteration of the map seemingly having a dedicated set of fans.

Overall, Black Ops 3 Nuketown received the most backing, with one user arguing, "It's not even close." However, this was countered by another comment that claimed "Black Ops 3 was horrendous," which also racked up over 1,000 likes.

As expected, a lot of fans backed the OG version, putting forward how the "original recipe is always king." Despite this, Black Ops 2 also earned up a lot of votes, and while Cold War got the least attention by far, supporters did claim the improved "graphics" meant it was incredible appearance-wise.

On the whole, there wasn't a true resolution to the question, as every Nuketown map had a steadfast group of players ready to defend their version. Then again, it's like trying to decide the 'best' Call of Duty game definitively - it isn't that easy.

When was the first Nuketown released in CoD?

Nuketown Call of Duty

The first version of Nuketown appeared in the Call of Duty franchise all the way back in 2010 with the release of the original Black Ops. Chaotic, action-packed, and with instantly recognisable features, the OG Nuketown map was an immediate hit with players and became a fan-favourite overnight.

As a result, the map has returned in multiple iterations across the Black Ops series, but with each of them having its own strengths, it appears CoD players still can't decide on which Nuketown map sits above the rest. Cast your votes, but let's be honest, Nuketown 2025 is still gorgeous 11 years later.
