Call of Duty players turn against ‘greedy’ Halloween event

With Call of Duty's 2024 Halloween skins not carrying over into Black Ops 6, angry players are asking what the point is in buying them.

Call Of Duty Fans Hate New Haunting Event

The spooky season is almost upon us, and with it, all of your favourite games are grabbing their shovels and heading to the graveyard. With Call of Duty's place on the shooter scene, it's become synonymous with its own Halloween offerings via The Haunting events. 2024 is no different.

Something is rattling its chains beneath the stairs as Black Ops 6 lumbers out of the shadows. Even as Modern Warfare 3 takes a shotgun to the head, its reanimated corpse continues to shuffle via Season 6. Although we're waving goodbye to last year's CoD, it has one more sinister season ahead.

Call of Duty fans aren't sold on Season 6's The Haunting event

Alongside the return of Michael Myers (who first appeared in Ghosts), MW3 and Warzone Season 6 are adding Trick 'r Treat's Sam, The Walking Dead's Daryl Dixon, and Terrifier's Art the Clown. These horror legends are sure to look the part as they slash their way across the MW3 and Warzone maps, but sadly, they're destined to be short-lived.

As Treyarch is starting from scratch and nixing the popular Carry Forward system, all your hard-earned (and hard-bought) Operator skins will be locked out of Black Ops 6. Although they'll still be accessible via MW3 multiplayer and Warzone, the fact we've seen you abandoning the latter in droves means your Halloween skins might be left to gather dust.

When DETONATED reminded us that a lack of carry forward threatens to give The Haunting skins a short lifespan, others said they won't be wasting their money on unlocking these frightening favourites. As cool as Art the Clown is, will you really be splashing out $20 to play with him for a couple of weeks?

Responding to the tweet, someone chimed in, "Well that’s just greed and dumb." Another added, "Warzone better be f**king worth it for BO6 era. I've been wanting a Daryl skin for a hot minute," and a third said, "Why would they release so many horror skins for an old game and not the new one that’s coming out IN HALLOWEEN SEASON ?!?!?!

We've known for a while that Carry Forward wouldn't be part of Black Ops 6, so it's not like we didn't see this coming. Still, it's a shame that Sledgehammer has cooked so hard with The Haunting skins. Even if this seems like a clever way to keep us playing MW3, we see exactly what Activision is trying to do.
